Small Town Murder Songs is a fantastic little movie that will hopefully move to wider recognition as more people see it. It's rare when movies with this level of technical prowess, smartness, and heart come around.

One of my favorite things about police procedurals is that by definition there is a basic formula that the story must follow. This can allow the storyteller to go to interesting places thematically and do things with the characters that would be harder to do in other kinds of stories.

Plot Summary: When a young, unidentified woman is found dead by the lake - the victim of a brutal and violent crime - Walter, an aging small town police officer, is called to the scene of the town's first murder investigation in decades. Haunted by his past, and hampered by the mistrust of the community and a state police officer overseeing the investigation, he sets out to solve the murder, complicated by his ex-lover and his suspicion of her current boyfriend. As he delves deeper into the crime, his newly-reformed life begins to unravel threatening his relationship with Sam and intertwining itself within the investigation and possibly the murder itself.

A great little movie called Small Town Murder Songs.Still, Small Town Murder Songs works more often than not thanks to quality acting and an eerie atmosphere brought to life through both images and song.
