Plot : John Carter is a science fiction thriller, based on ‘Barsoom’, the epic series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The inspiration for the movie comes from ‘A Princess of Mars’, the first work to feature the titular character. John Carter is an American war veteran, who inexplicably gets transported to Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom. The residents of the planet are these gigantic and monstrous green creatures, with six limbs and tusks. They do not take kindly to the presence of an intruder, in this case Carter, on their planet. As the resources of the planet deplete and struggle for survival becomes more and more difficult, these creatures come into constant conflict with one another. Water is scarce and the atmosphere hostile, as the planet’s life sustaining qualities are fast degenerating. To add to the woes of the inhabitants, is the conflict between the Red Martians and the Green Martians. John Carter soon finds himself embroiled in the struggle. With the aid of Tars Tarkas, who is a Green Martian, he saves Dejah Thoris, the Red Martian princess from the clutches of Tharks. John Carter begins to be viewed with lesser hostility now and the Green Martians join hands with him in the struggle against the Red Martian tribe.
